DERBY-ANSONIA — A person wanted in New York City for making threats to a school there caused an increased police presence at Derby Public Schools Friday (April 17).
Derby Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Conway sent a message to school families Friday morning saying the suspect may live in Ansonia. Conway said the information was relayed to him by the Derby Police Department.
There was no threat made to Derby schools but police were keeping an eye on the schools as a precaution. Conway’s message was sent at about 8:30 a.m.
At 11 a.m. Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch sent a message to the media saying the suspect does not live in Ansonia, but that the suspect had previously been arrested in Ansonia.
Lynch said the suspect lived out of state, or at least did the last time the person had come into contact with Ansonia police.
“We assisted the NYPD by checking the location of our arrest incident but the suspect was not there. There is no credible threat in Ansonia or to the Ansonia school system,” Lynch said in an email.
Additional details about the alleged threat to a school in New York City were not available.
