DERBY — Emergency crews plucked a jet skier from the Naugatuck River Wednesday (April 15).
Derby police, fire, and EMS were sent to the area of 5 Main St. at about 8 p.m. after receiving a report of an overturned jet ski in the river.
Crews on scene reported seeing a person in the water near the shore. The shore in that area is a slope so steep it can’t be navigated.
“When crews made contact with the victim it was found he needed to be removed via a rope rescue system,” according to a statement posted to Facebook by Derby Storm Ambulance and Rescue.
A rescue crew in cold-water gear carefully secured the person and got him or her up the hill and into an ambulance. The person was taken to the trauma center at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven.
Shelton firefighters with a boat were on standby during the call.
