JoAnn H. Dunford, age 91, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Brightview Senior Assisted Living with friends and family by her side.
She was the devoted wife of 67 years to the late Robert E. Dunford until his passing in 2019. JoAnn was born in Williamsport, PA on April 28, 1934 daughter of the late H. Lucille (Geier) Weigel-Walters and Norman Weigel. She was a longtime member of Brownson Country Club, Shelton, CT and Sawgrass Country Club in Florida. She enjoyed the company of her friends on the golf course, the bowling alley, the card table and wherever else they may have found themselves. Most of all, she cherished and enjoyed spending time with her family.
JoAnn was the beloved mother of Robert J. Dunford (Ruth Ann) and the late Karen Reilly (John), loving grandmother of Robert P. Dunford (Carly), James Dunford (Leanne) and Brian Reilly (fiancee Catherine) and great grandmother of Ella, Jack, Miles, James, Henry and Dominic Dunford. She is also survived by her sister, Glenda Allen and sister-in-law Patricia Dunford both of Erie, PA and brother-in-law Dennis Dunford of Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her daughter Karen, JoAnn was predeceased by her sister Nancy Briggs and her husband Don, her brother John Walters and his wife Carol, and brother-in-law Richard Dunford.
On Wednesday, April 22nd friends may call from 9:00 – 10:15 AM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Her funeral procession will leave at 10:30 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph High School in Honor of the Karen D. Reilly Scholarship Fund.
