Philip Joseph Orfino, age 89, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest in his home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of 61 years of Shirley E. (Bussiere) Orfino.
Philip was born in Bridgeport on September 24, 1936, son of the late Frank and Catherine Orfino, and lived in Bridgeport before moving to Shelton in 1990.
He proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He worked for 36 years for the State of Connecticut, first as a Park Ranger, and then as a Sergeant within the State of CT Protective Police Division, until his retirement. He loved gardening, fishing and baking. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Philip was very active with St. Margaret Mary Church and was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at the Shelton Senior Center.
His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. They meant everything to him, and Jack and Molly felt the same way about him.
Philip was the beloved father of Connie Sullivan and her husband Peter Sullivan, Jr. and Robert Orfino and his wife Nicole and loving grandfather of Jack and Molly Sullivan. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Philip was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
On Monday, April 20th, friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton. His entombment with military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
