Dorthea Coy, 79, of Oxford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck, surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 12, 1947, in Derby, Connecticut, daughter of the late Alton and Edith (Atterman) Jensen. Dorthea grew up in Oxford and made it her home throughout her life. For many years she devoted herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home

mother — a role she embraced fully and with deep love. She later worked secretarial jobs for several local companies before happily retiring to help care for her grandsons — the role that brought her the most joy.

Dorthea found her greatest joys in the quiet, meaningful corners of everyday life. She was an avid quilter whose handmade pieces will be treasured for generations, and a devoted gardener who loved tending the earth and watching things grow. Dogs always had a special place in her heart, and a loyal companion was never far from her side.

Above all, she cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with them. She also passed down her love of cooking to her son Doug — a gift that will live on in every meal made in her memory.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Douglass E. Coy; her sons, Doug and his wife Anne, and Matthew; Larissa, the beloved wife of her late son Andrew; her grandchildren, Andrew Jr. and Dayne; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her son Andrew, who passed away in November 2018, and by her infant son Gordon.

In accordance with Dorthea’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.

Those wishing to honor her memory are invited to consider a donation to the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters Fund. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street Seymour is entrusted with the arrangements. Please share a memory by going to www.hullfh.com
