Robert John Szymanski, 92, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 18, 2026 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. His life was a testament of love, laughter, and determination. He was born in Derby on December 4, 1933- son of the late Vincent and Steffa (Stobierski) Szymanski. He leaves behind his dedicated wife of 68 years, Barbara (Filanowski) Szymanski.

His children- Robert Szymanski Jr and partner Jane Butler, Daniel Szymanski and wife Susan, and Jane Mullany and husband Stephen- cherished him. He was the proud grandfather of Amanda Mariconda (Kyle), Daniel Szymanski (Marissa), Kyle Szymanski (Kristen), Matthew Szymanski , Jessica Mullany (Owen) and Stephen Mullany. Robert is also survived by his brother-in-law Samuel Filanowski (Patricia). He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Boland (Ralph) and sister-in-law, Jeanette Loughlin (William).

Robert overcame many obstacles in life and taught all of us the true meaning of perseverance. He proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He was a skilled trade carpenter and he worked for many years for the former Allied Signal. He also served as a Supernumerary Police Officer for the City of Shelton. Robert was a man of many talents. He loved to fish, golf, and play cards. He was constantly making new friends. His favorite pastime was being with family, especially his grandchildren.

The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 25, 2026, 11 AM directly at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton. Full Military Honors will immediately follow.

The family would like to thank the 10 North staff and doctors at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their compassion and care in his final days.
