Carmelina “Carmel” Garguilo Miani, aged 106, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2026, at her residence in Derby, CT.
She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Miani. Carmel, who was born on August 2, 1919, in New Haven, CT, was the daughter of the late Antonio and Celeste (Oliano) Garguilo, and was a Derby resident since 1947.
Before getting married and becoming a housewife and mother, Carmel worked as a seamstress at the former Slimfit Dress Co. Carmel loved cooking, sewing, crocheting and watching church services and her soap operas on television.
She took exceptional pride in maintaining her home and always loved cooking. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.
Carmel is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Barbara) Miani from Derby, CT; Paul (Lori) Miani from Seymour, CT; and Peter Miani from Ansonia, CT. Also her two grandchildren, Ann Marie (John) Corigliano from Orlando, FL; and Deanna Miani from Ansonia, CT; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings John Garguilo, Lillian Civitelli, Caroline DePoto, Frances Zona, Madeline Pecoraro, and twin sister Ann Garguilo.
Friends and family are invited to pay respects from 9:30 -11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT. Her funeral service will begin in the parlor at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby, CT.
