SEYMOUR – Cast Iron Chef Pizza & Bar closed its doors June 6 after two years in Klarides Village Plaza off Route 67.
“I’m having a hard time with it, I really tried,” owner/executive chef Attilio Marini said. “I still believe in the pizza, and I just don’t know what I’m going to do next.”
The restaurant opened in April 2024, four months before a freak flash flood decimated the plaza. Cast Iron Chef Pizza & Bar had a flooded basement and lost some $6,000 in goods.
“The flood didn’t help the situation,” Marini said.
In an announcement online earlier this month, the restaurant thanked its customers and others for their patronage.
Marini remains the executive chef/owner of the Cast Iron Chop House & Oyster Bar in New Haven. Prior to opening the pizza restaurant in Seymour in the former Mags Pizza space in Klarides Village, Marini opened his first Cast Iron Pizza in Milford in the Connecticut Post Mall.
State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria, one of the plaza owners, leased the 4,000 square-foot space to Marini.
“We were sorry to see Cast Iron close and wish them well,” Klarides-Ditria said in a text message. “As the property owner, we can confirm we are in active discussions with a prospective tenant for the space. We hope to have good news to share with the community soon.”
