John “Jack” Edward Cotter, age 74, formerly of Derby, recently of Mims, Florida, entered into rest on May 14, 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Deborah (Fanelli) Cotter.
He was born in Derby, son of the late William and Corrine Cotter, Sr. and was a resident of Derby for most of his life before moving to Florida 4 years ago.
Jack was employed in law enforcement with the State of CT for many years until his retirement. He was a member for over 50 years in the Derby Fire Department becoming a captain of the Storm Engine Company and a member of the Pauggasett Hook and Ladder in Derby. He was also a member of the Derby Lodge of Elks No. 571
He is the father of John Cotter (Hope) and CarrieAnn Cotter, grandfather of Calleigh and Jackson and brother of Mark Cotter (Roger). He is also survived by a stepdaughter Stefanie Ponzillo and several nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings William Cotter and Corrine McManus.
Friends may greet Jack’s family on Thursday June 25, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm with his memorial service to follow at 6:45 pm in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby.
