ANSONIA — On June 19, Ansonia honored Juneteenth – a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of Black freedom.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Mayor Frank Tyszka was joined by Pastor Bruce Goldson of The Macedonia Baptist Church, Alder Jackie Daniels, Alder Jaylen Daniels, Alder Tyler Kennedy, Alder Dan Stahl, Vocalist Kiah Sanders, and State Representative Kara Rochelle.

We gathered as a community to celebrate the strength, resilience, and countless contributions of Black Americans in Ansonia and across the country, as well as our shared responsibility to create a more just future for all.
