David M. Towne, 67, of Derby and previously of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Frances Towne (Bunny), entered peaceful rest on July 4, 2026, in Griffin Hospital of Derby. Born in Great Barrington, MA on November 12, 1958, he was the son of the late Howard Towne, Sr. and Alice Towne.
A former truck driver for BFI, David was known for perfect attendance, professionalism, and a safe driver. He loved driving his classic 442 Oldsmobile Cutlass and taking his late wife, Bunny, for rides to the car shows at Mister Donut’s in Derby, CT. He also worked on models and collected Oldsmobile diecast cars as well as pictures and T-shirts of them. He especially enjoyed spending time with his late wife, Bunny, and took great care of her. His neighbor and one of his best friends, Dennis Faroni, and he enjoyed long chats together as well as walking in the evenings with Stormy (Dennis’ dog) and helping each other out. Bill Thompson, another one of his best friends,enjoyed spending time together drinking coffee, having long chats, and helping each other out. David was always helping someone. It made him happy to help others.
As a stepfather, David (Dad #2) embraced his family with kindness, patience and humor, guiding Skip, Lee, and Tim through life’s milestones and everyday moments. His steady presence, corny jokes, and quiet wisdom will always be missed.
David is survived by stepchildren Warren Crofoot (Melissa) of Seymour, Leanna Kross (Chris) of Centennial, CO, and Timothy Crofoot, Sr. (Vicky) of Palmer Lake, CO, step grandchildren Chelsea Crofoot of Pueblo, CO, Timothy Crofoot, Jr. of Shelton, Jesse Crofoot of Palmer Lake, CO and Wyatt Crofoot of Golden, CO and Rebecca and Brady Crofoot of Seymour, several step great grand children of Pueblo, CO, and siblings Juanita Towne Keroski of Prospect, Kevin Towne of Bethany, William Towne of Cromwell as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife Bunny, David was predeceased by his siblings, Howard Towne, Jr., Donald Towne, Cheryl Towne Brooks, Kenneth Towne, Dale Towne, and Darryl Towne.
