Marietha Hinds, age 84 of Ansonia, died peacefully on July 5, 2026 at the Shady Knoll Health Care Center, Seymour. Born on May 12, 1942, in St. Lucy, Barbados, she was the daughter of the late Osbert Harvey and Louise Irene Hinds.

Ms. Hinds was raised in Barbados and immigrated to the United States in 1970, settling in New York City and working within the hotel industry. Later that year, Ms. Hinds moved to New Canaan, CT where she became employed as a housekeeper and caregiver for 25 years. She then moved to Piney Glen, Maryland, where she continued her duties until retiring in 2009. She was a resident of Ansonia for the past 17 years.

Ms. Hinds was a gifted home cook with a passion for the culinary arts; she found great joy in preparing meals that brought family and friends together. She loved watching the Food Network, always eager to learn new techniques and recipes, but her true signature dish was her famous “CouCou”, along with other Caribbean specialties. Through every meal she prepared, she expressed her warmth, generosity and love for those fortunate enough to share it. Ms. Hinds found great solace in a peaceful walk and tending to her manicured gardens.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Theresa E. Hinds of Ansonia; sisters, Eleanor (Mike) Hope, Carmen Hinds, Erma Hinds; and brother, Oliver Hinds; all of Barbados; nieces, Felicia Waithe, Quinta Hinds, Monique Hinds, and Melisa Hinds; nephews, Anthony Hinds, Terry Hope, Dave Hindd, Marlon Hinds, and Shamar Hinds; and her many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ms. Hinds was predeceased by sister, Miriam Hinds; brother, Winston Hinds; sister-in-law, Marcia Hinds; and her beloved companion, Ralph Franklin Boyce.

Private interment will take place in Barbados. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
