David J. Tynan, age 83, a resident of Derby for sixty years, entered eternal rest on July 7, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of sixty-two years to Dorothy “Dot” (Pitney) Tynan.
Born in Derby on January 19, 1943, he was the son of the late John R. and Irene (Cramp) Tynan. David was raised in Seymour and a graduate of Seymour High School. He began his career employed at AVCO Lycoming/Textron in Stratford as a gear grinder then later worked as a Connecticut State Police Trooper and ultimately retired as a long-time dairy manager for the former Klarides Supermarkets. David was a true history lover who spent time studying and gaining knowledge of the Civil War. He was a devout Catholic with a deep love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He often enjoyed a good breakfast and great conversation with his cousins. His favorite hobby was collecting coins. David was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Family meant everything to Dave. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his loved ones. His memory will live on through the family he loved so deeply.

Tynan (Pauline) of Derby, brother, Timothy Tynan of CA, sister, Susan Tynan of Beacon Falls, grandchildren, Zachary Flagge (Samantha Constantinou) of Niantic, Paige Flagge (Ben Roche) of Old Lyme, Isabella Flagge of Old Lyme, Matthew Halligan (Emily) of Bristol, RI, D.J. Tynan of Melbourne, FL, Joshua Tynan of Tallahassee, FL, Amelia Tynan of Melbourne, FL, Deklyn Tynan of Melbourne, FL, Bailey Tynan of Melbourne, FL and Alyssa Tynan of Woodbridge, NJ, sister-in-law, Louise Pitney of Derby along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Jeffrey W. Halligan, brothers, Robert, James and Matthew Tynan, sister, Christine Gawel, brothers-in-law, Carmen Pitney Sr. and Louis Pitney and sister-in-law, Marie Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday July 16, 2026, from 9:00-10:30 am in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. His funeral will then proceed to St. Mary’s Church in Derby for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
