Jo-Ann (Severine) DiPoalo, age 91, of Derby entered into rest on Friday July 10, 2026 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the devoted wife of 54 years to the late Anthony DiPoalo.
Jo-Ann was born in Shelton on May 3, 1935 daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Sipay) Severine and was a resident of Derby for most of her adult life.
Jo-Ann and her husband owned and operated Tony’s Cleaning Service until her retirement. Even with long hours managing her business she also managed to have dinner on the table every night for her family and kept an immaculately clean house.
She was very faithful saying her rosary and loved and was committed to her Catholic faith that gave her strength. Jo-Ann was a longtime parishioner at the former St. Jude Parish in Derby and later attended St. Mary’s in Derby. She was loyal and devoted to her family and sacrificed all she had and lived a selfless, giving life. Her friends and family benefited greatly by her constant and tenacious prayers for them. Jo-Ann was a huge Red Sox fan, loved to crochet and made beautiful blankets for her grandchildren, Christmas Eve was a special night growing up and she made every holiday special. She cared for her mother and husband in their final years with great courage and sacrifice. She loved game shows, crossword puzzles, and singing along with old time country western music.
She is survived by a son John DiPoalo, two daughters, Cheryl DiPoalo and Donna DeRosa and her husband Tom, two granddaughters Gianna DeRosa Dutrieux and her husband Justin and Natalie DeRosa Garrison and her husband Austin. She will be sadly missed by her fury companion Hayley. Jo-Ann was predeceased by her parents Nellie Sipay Severine and Joseph Severine, husband Anthony (Tony) DiPoalo, her sons Anthony DiPoalo Jr., Robert DiPoalo, and a brother Tom Savarine. Words cannot express enough gratitude for the strength and heroic help in these last few months from Noelle Hanna, Lorlene Beck, and Tony and Vianca and Alina and Amelia Negron who were truly like family to her.
Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. Her funeral will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Mary Church, Derby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital.
