John J. Chickos, age 83, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Saturday July 11, 2026 in his daughter’s home in Naugatuck where he lived for the past 6 years with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Sherie (Adams) Chickos. John was born in Bridgeport on November 12, 1942, son of the late John and Veronica (Chatlos), and was a resident of Shelton for most of his life.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He began his career as a Stratford Police Officer and then moved to Sikorsky Aircraft where he served on the Marine One Presidential Helicopter Security Team for twenty-three years before his retirement.
John was active and enjoyed many interests. He enjoyed softball and bowling, as well as going to the dog track, the horse track, and Jai Alai. John was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and supporting their sporting events.
He is the cherished father of Barbara (Paul) D’Agnone and John P. (Elizabeth) Chickos proud grandfather of Marc (Kristen), Matthew (Melissa), and Michael (Amanda) D’Agnone and Ally and Owen Chickos, and great-grandfather of Joseph. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Manely, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother-in-law’s, William Manely and Calvin McCullough.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the devoted care and support they received from the Accent Care Hospice Team, including Jennifer, Jenna, Melissa, and Tim, and from John’s caregivers, Loran and Tracy.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 10 AM. His funeral service will begin in the parlor at 10 AM. Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Monroe.
