SEYMOUR – A Seymour man was charged along with five other men after a child sex crime investigation involving the FBI.
Matthew Durkin, 37, was charged this month with attempted second-degree sexual assault, attempted commercial sex abuse of a minor, and risk of injury to a minor.
According to the West Haven Police Department, detectives from West Haven and Meriden participated in a child predator investigation along with undercover agents from the FBI.
The agents exchanged online messages with Durkin and the other investigation targets while posing as a “fictitious, underage, juvenile prostitute,” according to police.
“At some point during these conversations, these individuals acknowledged the fictitious, underage, juvenile prostitute’s age and agreed to provide money in exchange for sexual acts,” police said.
Durkin was taken into custody after arriving at a pre-arranged meet-up location, police said.
Along with Durkin, the following five men were charged as part of the same operation:
- Joseph Roy, 36, of Milford
- Levi Manuel Mendoza Suchite, 22, of West Haven
- Marquis Rumley, 36, of Hamden
- Robert Lopez, 33, of Milford
- Miguel Mandujano, 32, of Bridgeport
Each defendant’s bond was set at $500,000 by police.
Durkin’s case has not yet appeared in the state judicial website as of July 14. Cases often take a few days to show up there.
