SHELTON — Sensory Play Center, a new nonprofit dedicated to creating an inclusive, accessible play space for children of all abilities, celebrated its official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony July 17.
Founded by Martha Parkins and Michele Lovallo, Sensory Play Center (375 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton) is the culmination of more than a year of planning, fundraising, and community support. The center was created to give children of all abilities a welcoming space to learn, grow, and thrive through play, with sensory-friendly equipment and activities designed to meet a wide range of developmental and accessibility needs.
“I have searched for an organization dedicated to building a community hub where all children—regardless of ability—can learn, grow, and thrive. Martha and I decided to build our own,” said Lovallo. “Our center fosters inclusion, understanding, and connection, creating a space where differences are celebrated, families feel supported, and every child is given the opportunity to feel included.”
Following the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to tour the facility, enjoy light refreshments, and learn more about the organization’s mission and the impact it hopes to make in the community.
The Sensory Play Center is also hosting a 30-day raffle to benefit the Community Access Fund. The fund, supported by the raffle proceeds, will help ensure that families of all financial backgrounds are able to access the center’s programs and services.
