OXFORD – Joseph “Joe” S. Chicoski, age 85 of Oxford, beloved husband of Katherine “Kathy” (Wallace) Chicoski, entered peaceful rest on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Derby on January 26, 1941, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Stephanie (Wisneski) Chicoski.
A proud American and veteran, Joe served as a Loadmaster in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era. Joe grew up in Beacon Falls and spent the rest of his life in Oxford, CT. He loved to garden, travel, and was a non-commissioned food critic anywhere he went. He also loved music and was a founding member of the Cool Notes, a local band in the 60’s where he played bass. Joe had a true passion for life and was always quick with a joke (even if it didn’t always land). His personality gained him many friends throughout the years. He had a very diverse work life but may be remembered most fondly by his most cherished jobs as proprietor of the Corner Store and Old Tyme Kitchen in Oxford, CT and later greeting visitors with his gentle smile at Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home for the past 17 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and basking in the sun, especially on a boat. Joe was also a longtime dedicated parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. He loved the church community and participated in many events. Above all else, Joe adored his family, and would do anything for them, as well as those fortunate to be his friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife Kathy, of 60 years, survivors include his loving children, Joseph Chicoski and his wife Allyson of OH, Karen Clark of Oxford, and Kristine Nemec and her husband Michael of Beacon Falls; 10 adored grandchildren, Justin Hilton (Rachael), Nathanial Hilton (Amanda), Jacob Nemec, Richard Clark III, Katie Azizi (Mehdi), Ryan Chicoski, Ethan Chicoski, Adam Chicoski, Nicole Nemec, and Matthew Chicoski; 5 cherished great grandchildren, Ava, Landon, Evelyn, Hailey and Lennon; brothers, Raymond and Robert Chicoski, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Holloway and his son-in-law, Richard L. Clark Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, August 2, 2026 from 3pm to 6pm in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 3, 2026 DIRECTLY at 11am in Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Nicholas Parish), 135 Mountain Rd. Seymour, CT 06483 with full military honors to follow. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joe’s name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, or to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford.
