DERBY — The transfer station on Pine Street is closed today (Monday, Sept. 14) after a tree fell on an employee trailer. It’s also scheduled to be closed Tuesday.
Derby City/Town Clerk sent out an email advising the public on Sunday at about 1:30 p.m. A wind and rain storm had passed through the region in the hours prior.
The city did not report any injuries. The transfer station is closed on Sundays, according to the official City of Derby website.
The trailer is close to the transfer station’s entrance. When customers arrive, they first drive up a ramp atop a scale next to the employee trailer so their vehicles can be weighed.
Customers then empty whatever they’ve brought to dump in the various containers available.

The City of Derby Transfer Station received significant damage to the office trailer from a falling tree on the morning of September 13, 2026. As a result, the Derby Transfer Station will be closed on Monday and Tuesday September 14 and 15, 2026 due to storm damage.
We will keep you posted when the tree is cleared.
