Edward “Ned” Millea, Jr., age 82 of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, entered into rest on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hawthorne Center for Rehabilitation in Sarasota with his loving family by his side.
Ned was married to the love of his life, Mary Ann (Early) Millea for 55 wonderful years. He was born in Derby on December 18, 1943, son of the late Edward K. Millea, Sr. and Gladys (Lockwood) Millea and graduated from Shelton High in 1961. He lived his whole life in Shelton except for the last decade residing in Lakewood Ranch.
Ned worked for 30 years at Avco Lycoming/Textron in Stratford. After retirement, he drove Bus #33 for the Shelton school system for several years where the kids would respectfully call him “Mr. Ned.” He also enjoyed working at the Shelton Community Center. Ned was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and would always cheer on the Sox with his wife by his side.
He was a proud inductee into the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame and loved coaching his three sons in Little League and Pop Warner. He enjoyed softball, bowling, camping and playing cards (setback) over the years. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
His unforgettable laugh will forever be remembered by all that knew him. He was truly the life of the party and brought smiles and laughter wherever he went.
He is the beloved father of Edward Millea III (Ronda), Sean Millea (Melissa), and Jeffrey Millea (Krista), and proud grandfather of Jeffrey Jr., Jaxon, Colson, Leo, Téa & Owen. He is also survived by his siblings Dennis Millea (Karen), Gladys Funaro (Ray), and Karen Freddino (Robert), and many nieces, nephews, friends and in-laws. Edward was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Taylor (Jonathan) and Mary Herrick (Ronald).
Friends may call on Thursday October 1, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Friday October 2, 2026 at 9:15 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, Shelton.
