DERBY — The city’s board of police commissioners welcomed a new recruit to the Derby Police Department.
Joseph August took the oath to become a police officer at a Sept. 22 meeting. The oath was administered by Derby Police Commissioner Thomas DeGennaro.
August will start training at the police academy in October.
“Congratulations and welcome to Derby Police Department,” the department posted to Facebok. “We wish you the very best as you begin this exciting new chapter.”
The starting salary is $76,565.
Derby Police Chief Brian Grogan said that once August is working in Derby, the department will be at full staff for the first time in several years.
