SHELTON – Police arrested a man who allegedly held up a convenience store on Howe Avenue Sept. 30.
Paulo Dias, 54, of Trumbull, was charged Oct. 1 with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance, illegal use of a facsimile firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and first-degree armed threatening, according to a post from the police department.
Police said Dias entered the In & Out Mini Market at 65 Howe Ave. Sept. 30 wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying what appeared to be a gun.
“He approached the cashier, pointed the firearm directly at the cashier’s head, and demanded money,” police said.
Afterward, Dias allegedly fled the store with the stolen cash.
About seven hours later, investigators tracked Dias down and apprehended him. At that time, detectives allegedly found stolen cash, a facsimile firearm, and clothes connected to the robbery in Dias’ possession.
A photo posted by police on social media appears to show several hundred dollars in cash, along with an iPhone, the facsimile firearm, sunglasses, gloves and a sweatshirt.
Dias was arrested and is held on a $750,000 bond, according to police. Police said a court date has been scheduled at Superior Court in Derby but did not say the specific date.
