This musical comedy satire is about a rock and roll star, Conrad Birdie, who is drafted into the army, prompting his manager Albert Peterson and secretary Rosie Alvarez to arrange a televised “farewell kiss” with a lucky fan to boost publicity.
The fan, Kim MacAfee, from the small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio, becomes the focus of the chaotic stunt, which involves her jealous boyfriend, a disapproving mother, and a town in a frenzy.
The story culminates in Albert and Rosie’s personal and professional journey, set against the backdrop of 1950s teen culture. With upbeat music, big dance numbers and a whole lot of fun, this show makes for a fun, nostalgic look at pop culture in the 50s.
