ANSONIA, CT: E. James Uberti, age 92, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, with his family at his side, on October 13, 2026, after a brief illness.
The son of Antonio and Consolena (Sticco) Uberti, he was born in Derby on August 29, 1934. Jim graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School. Although he subsequently left college to run his family’s business, he greatly valued education and never stopped seeking knowledge. He loved reading, listening, and learning, and could engage in well-informed discussions about government, politics, foreign affairs, sports, and a myriad of other topics. He served his country in the U.S. Army and, following his honorable discharge, played and marched with the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps for five years. He remained a drum corps fan throughout his life and attended numerous competitions over the years.
Throughout his long and full life, Jim had many accomplishments and enjoyed many experiences. He was perhaps best known for developing Derby Glass Company into a thriving glass installation and repair business that, even after his retirement, has remained well-known throughout the lower Naugatuck Valley and beyond.
Jim loved his country deeply and was a lifelong Republican. He held a variety of roles and achieved many successes in politics. Locally, he served as Chairman of the Ansonia Republican Town Committee for several years and guided multiple successful mayoral campaigns. Beginning in 1972, he served as Campaign Manager for Ronald Sarasin, who won three successive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from Connecticut’s heavily Democratic 5th District. Jim went on to serve as Congressman Sarasin’s District Director for six years. During his political career, he was also a member of the Republican State Central Committee.
Jim was an avid and gifted golfer throughout his life. He maintained a single-digit handicap for many years and won the Connecticut Super Seniors title at age 71. He also added seven holes-in-one to his golf résumé, all after the age of 50! Often to his chagrin, Jim was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, sporting the team’s gear and displaying the Cowboys logo throughout his home. For the last thirty years, he bemoaned the franchise’s chronic underachievement.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; his beloved sister, Anna Salce, and her husband, Nicholas Salce; and their sons, his nephews Nicholas, David, and Paul. In later life, he also experienced the loss of dear companions Juliet (Jules) Tomah and Ineke Ghering.
He is survived by his son, James Uberti, MD, and his wife, Anne; his daughter, Resa Gilmore, and her husband, Phil; his grandchildren, Elise Donahue, Nicholas Uberti, Matthew Gilmore, and Derek Gilmore; his great-grandchildren, Maeve Donahue and Patrick Donahue; and his nieces, Alison McClain and JoEllen Salce-Rodgers
We share this obituary with sadness, but are forever grateful to have had Jim as part of our lives for so many years. The one constant in his life was his devotion to family and friends. He loved us deeply and unconditionally, and we loved him in return. Such will be his enduring legacy.
