Janet F. Wheeler, age 87, of Huntington, beloved wife of the late Wesley R. Wheeler, died peacefully on October 23, 2026 in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.
Born in Bridgeport on January 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Josephine Barro Verrilli.
Written by Janet herself:
“I am happy and lived a full life – no complaints.
My happiest memories are those with my beloved sons Jim and Bob. The joy of being a
mother, then grandmother to Chris and John is infinitesimal! Along with the above, I
treasure my relationships with my nieces Wendy and Cynthia. Wendy is the daughter I
never had. I hold her and her children Courtney and Matthew close to my heart. Cynthia
and I had much fun in Florida. Mary was my favorite sister, and I missed my talks with
Kitty and Sandy.
I was fortunate to have been born to Italian parents with rich traditions and a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Wesley was the love of my life! He made me laugh all the time and made me feel special! He treated my boys and grandkids like they were his own.”
Mrs. Wheeler was raised in Bridgeport and attended Sacred Heart University. She worked as an Executive Assistant for the Cadbury Schweppes Corporation for many years before joining the staff of Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, where she worked as an Office Clerk and Administrative Assistant for 13 years, until the time of her retirement.
Throughout her professional career, she was well known for her dedication, professionalism and genuine pride she invested in her work.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Robert Feather and his companion, Gail Boulger of Massachusetts and James Feather of Hamden; stepdaughter, Lisa Wheeler of Monroe; stepson, Douglas Wheeler of Trumbull; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Feather of Meriden and Jonathan Feather of Hamden; step-grandson, Maxwell Wheeler of Trumbull; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 15 years, Mrs. Wheeler was predeceased by sisters, Mary Flyte, Kathleen Baxley and Sandra Christensen.
Private interment will take place in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
