John J. Dunleavey, age 82, of Oxford, beloved husband of 50 years to Jacqueline “Jackie” (Shanley) Dunleavey, entered peaceful rest at Havencare at Filosa in Danbury on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Born in Medford, MA, on August 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Ryan) Dunleavey.
A retired central office manager for SNET, Mr. Dunleavey was also a proud US Army veteran, serving his country from 1965–1968 while stationed in Korea. John loved being outdoors and especially took pride in maintaining his home, lawn, garden, and growing tomatoes. John found his greatest joy in the quiet moments of life, surrounded by the people he loved most. His backyard Dunleavey family reunions were among the proudest moments of his life. At these events, and others like them, he enjoyed watching three generations of his family grow. His family was most important to him, and he embraced being a grandfather to his nine cherished grandchildren.
Mr. Dunleavey is survived by his loving children, John Dunleavey and Kristen Scianna of Oxford, Amy Lutter and her husband Greg of Virginia, and Allyson O’Hara and her husband Ken of Brookfield; his brothers, Philip Dunleavey and his wife Joan, and Michael Dunleavey and his wife Fran; his nine cherished grandchildren, Gabrielle, Benjamin, Kathryn, Lucas, Jacob, Madison, Emily, Margaret, and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Dunleavey, and his siblings, Francis “Barry” Dunleavey, Joan Condon, and James Dunleavey.
All services will be held at the convenience of the family, and the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
