I’m writing today in regards to the streets of Ansonia being in such disrepair.

Potholes have been getting patched just to reopen. Cracks, holes, patches, gullies, it’s insane and unacceptable.

In the last two years, we’ve had to repair front end damage more then once to both of our vehicles.

In addition, it’s an eyesore. Example would be North State Street. Take a drive down the street and take a look not only at the road but how about the sidewalks.

The bottom line is you get what you give. It’s starting to look like skid row. Let’s pave the road and repair the sidewalks.

I’ve lived in this city for 23 years and have never seen things look so bad. I know that we received funds to revitalize the downtown but honestly, there are other places that need revitalizing also.

I urge you Mayor Cassetti and the City of Ansonia to please, pave the roads! I hate to see what this winter will bring for our city roads.

  1. You are absolutely right Noreen, We need a comprehensive plan to rehab not just our roads, but our sidewalks too. Property owners just cannot afford to replace their sidewalks. We are still reeling from the WPA assessment and PP tax increases. I believe a citywide plan needs to be put in place to repair ailing sidewalks when roads are re-done. No… this cannot be done all at once, but a carefully crafted 10 year plan should be able to cover most of the problem areas. Investing in our infrastructure will have the effect of increasing property values, increasing community pride, and making our roads and sidewalks safer for pedestrians. Gas prices are not going down any time soon, more people are walking to commute and for health.

  2. Your example of North State looking like skid row, Sorry to tell you but it is skid row with all the multi family’s receiving section 8 and absent landlords.

  3. Carol Morrow, I didn’t mean to insinuate that the “people” were from skid row. It is the street and the sidewalks that made me make that statement. I am not bashing section 8 or the landlords in any way!! Just wanted to clarify. Let’s not make this into something else entirely. Thank you.
