ANSONIA – When Brian Cirella saw a woman in need of urgent medical care, he didn’t hesitate to act.
Cirella, an employee at Eversource, was working in Ansonia when he was flagged down by two railroad workers, according to a press release. They pointed him to the parking lot next to the train station, where a woman had collapsed from a seizure.
Cirella, who had just recently taken a CPR and first aid class, made sure the workers had dialed 911 before tending to the woman.
“He then focused on the woman, helping her stay calm, coherent and as comfortable as possible until emergency responders arrived,” the release says. “He placed his safety vest under her head to protect it and spoke with her until the ambulance arrived.”
Cirella’s supervisor, Gerry Fritch, credited Cirella’s workplace classes with helping to avoid a worse outcome.
“This training helps us be prepared to not only help a coworker in distress, but anyone we encounter at home or in the field working,” Fritch said.
