Rosita Ambroise, age 92 of Derby, beloved wife of the late Joseph Greffin Ambroise, died peacefully on May 29, 2026 at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born on December 15, 1933, in Arcahaie, Haiti she was the daughter of the late Firmin and Netulia Beaubrun Bruno.
Mrs. Ambroise was raised and educated in Haiti, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and inspired many young students as a grammar schoolteacher. Together with her family, she immigrated to the United States in 1980 and first settled in Brooklyn, NY. She then relocated to Stamford, Norwalk and lastly, Derby, CT where she was a communicant of St. Michael Church.
Mrs. Ambroise worked as a housekeeper for Norwalk Hospital for 22 years, prior to her retirement in 2002. Her family was the center of her world and her greatest source of joy. She enjoyed cooking for holidays and social gatherings, ever proud of her Haitian specialties such as soup joumou, legume and banan peze. Mrs. Ambroise was best known for her straightforward nature and boundless energy, living independently and facing daily challenges well into her senior years.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Johane Ambroise of Derby; sisters, Marie-Augusta Archer of Brooklyn, NY, Exina Pierre of Atlanta, GA, Marinette Dutervil of NJ; brothers, Calixe Bruno of Haiti and Antenor Bruno of Brooklyn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her spouse of 50 years, she was predeceased by sisters, Fenela Bruno, and Marie-Marte Bruno; and brothers, Abner Bruno, Pierre-Andre Bruno and Boinet Bruno.
Family and friends may call on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.
