SEYMOUR — Police charged a New York City man with first-degree robbery June 9.
In a statement released to social media June 18, police said Franklyn Jose Diaz Arias, 26, of the Bronx, carjacked a driver in the Henny Penny parking lot off Route 67 after the motorist picked up Diaz Arias hitchhiking near the Waterbury train station.
The crime happened March 25 at about 8 a.m. Diaz Arias pulled out a gun during the crime, police said.
Seymour detectives were able to develop Diaz Arias as a suspect through witness statements and surveillance video. New York City police from the 19th precinct took Diaz Arias into custody after stopping him in the victim’s car on the upper east side of Manhattan.
Diaz Arias is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Milford on July 2.
