ANSONIA – Police arrested an Ansonia resident as part of a yearlong investigation into a reported child sex crime.

Thomas Saunders, 21, was charged July 10 with second-degree sexual assault, enticing a minor to sexual activity over a computer, and risk of injury to a child.

According to Ansonia Police Lt. Alex Barreira, detectives began investigating Saunders in June 2025 regarding a possible crime against a minor who lives in Connecticut.

Police didn’t share how they pinpointed Saunders as a suspect.

Police set Saunders’ bond at $75,000 He had a court date scheduled for July 13, according to police records.
