Chris Rowlands – Puppeteer and Singer

Collecting the Rainbow of Nature

Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Join Ranger Dawn for a colorful nature walk exploring the incredible variety of colors found in the natural world. Participants will search for flowers, leaves, fungi, insects, and other natural treasures representing every color of the rainbow while learning about camouflage, pollination, and seasonal changes in nature. A fun and creative outdoor adventure for all ages! FREE! Registration required.

Family Fishing Class – C.A.R.E. Program

Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Learn to fish under the guidance of a certified instructor! This program introduces the basics of freshwater fishing and aquatic ecology. FREE!

The Ansonia Nature Center is sponsoring the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s C.A.R.E. (Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education) Family Fishing Class. This free educational program introduces participants to the basics of freshwater fishing and aquatic ecology.

The morning classroom session will be followed by hands-on fishing instruction at Redwing Pond with certified DEEP C.A.R.E. instructors led by Dave Connely. All bait and equipment will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own gear. Open to adults and children ages 7 and older; anyone 16 and older must possess a valid Connecticut fishing license to participate in the fishing portion of the program.

Nature Tic Tac Toe

Saturday, August 8 @ 9:30 a.m.

Join Ranger Dawn for a fun outdoor game inspired by the sights and sounds of nature. Participants will complete nature-themed challenges, search for natural objects, and work together in this creative twist on the classic game of Tic Tac Toe. Perfect for children and families. FREE!

World of Bugs

Saturday, August 8 @ 11:00 a.m.

There’s an entire miniature world hiding beneath our feet and buzzing through the summer air. Join Ranger Evelyn to explore the fascinating lives of insects and other many-legged critters, and learn about the important roles bugs play in healthy ecosystems. FREE Family-friendly event for all ages.

Introduction to Fly Fishing

Saturday, August 15 @ 2:00 p.m.

Join Paul DiNice for an introduction to the art and science of fly fishing. This free program will cover beginner fly fishing equipment, casting basics, fishing techniques, and an overview of flies used in both freshwater and saltwater fishing throughout New England. Participants will also learn about aquatic insects such as mayflies and caddisflies that inspire fly patterns.

Conservation Corps: Pick a Peck of Plastic

Saturday, August 22 @ 9:30 a.m.

Join the Conservation Corps as we continue restoring areas previously overtaken by invasive Japanese Knotweed. Volunteers will help remove old plastic sheeting and debris left behind from earlier management efforts while preparing the site for future habitat restoration projects.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves, water, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Perseid Meteor Shower

Saturday, August 22 from 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Join Ranger Jeremy in the open field adjacent to Raptor Woods to observe one of the most famous meteor showers of the year. Learn about meteors, constellations, and the night sky while enjoying a relaxing evening under the stars. Bring blankets or lawn chairs and dress for cooler nighttime temperatures.

Pond Life Hike

Saturday, August 29 @ 2:00 p.m.

Explore the lively ecosystem surrounding Redwing Pond with Ranger Jeremy. Participants will search for frogs, turtles, aquatic insects, fish, and other wildlife while learning about wetland habitats and the importance of healthy freshwater ecosystems. Wear clothes that can get a little muddy. FREE!
