Fatal Crash Reported On Route 8 In Shelton

A 20-year-old North Carolina man died overnight after a one-car crash on Route 8 north in Shelton Monday morning.

According to state police, Fausto Rivera was in the back seat of a 2000 Acura 3.2TL when it struck a tree on Route 8 north, near exit 13.

Rivera was thrown from the car, which was traveling at a high rate of speed,” police said in a statement.

The Acura was being driven by Jose Gutierrez, 29, of Bridgeport. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said, as was another passenger, Anthony Tenn, 29, of Stratford. Tenn was in the front passenger seat.

Gutierrez and Tenn had to be cut from the car by firefighters using the jaws of life.” Police further described their injuries as minor.”

The crash happened about 1:45 a.m.

Gutierrez was wearing a seat belt. The state police report says it is not known whether the passengers were doing the same.

Rivera’s body was found about 25 feet from the wrecked car.

The case is under investigation, police said.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed until about 7:30 a.m.

Route 8 was cleared Monday morning after a fatal crash overnight.

Details on the crash, including the victim’s name, were not available as of 8 a.m.

The crash was on Route 8 north, near exit 13.

According to the state’s Department of Transportation, the crash was reported at about 2 a.m.

The wreck involved one car, according to WFSB.

Echo Hose Hook & Ladder in Shelton advised motorists at 4:30 a.m. that the northbound lanes would be closed for awhile.
