Man Dies After Shelton Boating Accident

A 55-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after being pulled from the Housatonic River in Shelton Friday night.

Authorities have not released his name.

According to a prepared statement from Shelton police, a group of people were on a boat in the river when it struck an object in the water near the Sunnyside boat ramp just before 7 p.m.

The Shelton dive team, along with emergency personnel from Shelton, Stratford and the private Sikorsky company fire department all responded to help.

The man was found within 15 minutes of the initial 911 call. He was reported to not be breathing when he was discovered. CPR was administered.

The victim was first taken to Griffin Hospital, then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died Saturday.
