Oxford Candidates Plan ‘Meet The Candidates’ Events

Oxford’s Democrats have planned a monthlong series of Meet the Candidates events to be held at the Oxford Grange. Visitors will have a chance to meet Scott Flaherty, Democratic candidate for First Selectman, and the other candidates; discuss important issues; and meet up with neighbors and friends.

The Grange is located at 482 Oxford Road, adjacent to the Oxford Center School.

The kickoff event, “Discover the Candidates,” will take place on Monday, Oct. 9, from 10 am to 1 pm. Visitors can meet the candidates; kids can sample a Native American Journey cake, make a dream catcher, and color pictures of Columbus’s ships.

These are the planned future events:

Friday, Oct. 13, 8 to 10 am. “Coffee and . . .” Visitors can grab a cup of coffee and a cookie shaped like a lucky horseshoe, for luck on Friday the Thirteenth.

Saturday, Oct. 14, 9:30 am to 3 pm. “Meet the Candidates.” Coffee, juice, and baked goods will be available.

Wednesday, Oct. 18, 8 to 10 am and 3 to 4:30 pm. Chocolate cupcakes on this day, which happens to be National Chocolate Cupcake Day.

Saturday, Oct. 21, 9:30 am to 3 pm. “National Apple Day.” Meet the candidates and have some homemade baked apples. Kids will have pictures to color and the story of Johnny Appleseed.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 8 to 10 am. “Coffee and. . . “ Visitors can grab a cup of coffee and some baked goods.

Saturday, Oct. 28, 9:30 am to 3 pm. “National Make a Difference Day.” Visitors can learn how their vote can make a difference. They can also get information on local groups to join in making a difference in a variety of ways for community and country.

Thursday, Nov. 2, 8 to 10 am. “Coffee and. . . “ Visitors can grab a cup of coffee and some baked goods.

Saturday, Nov. 4, 9:30 am to 3 pm. Last chance to meet the candidates.
