Shelton Fire Department Weekly Calls

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from the last week.

On 10/02/17 at 2:39 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a large brush fire in the woods off Isinglass Road. Four engines responded.

On 10/02/17 at 5:53 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5, Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of smoke in the area of Buddington Road and Mill Street. No smoke or source of smoke was found after a search of the area by firefighters. Three engines responded.

On 10/03/17 at 9:15 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding from #26 Clinton Drive. There was no fire. Steam from a shower caused the alarm. Two engines responded.

On 10/03/17 at 2:51 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to assist a home owner locked out of the house at #124 Armstrong Road. A ladder truck responded.

On 10/03/17 at 3:34 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding from #46 Dogwood Drive. There was no fire. Dust from construction caused the alarm. An engine responded.

On 10/03/17 at 3:59 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a mutual aid call to the Town of Bethel to assist at a large brush fire. One tanker and a brush truck responded.

On 10/04/17 at 11:08 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Benchmark Senior Living at Split Rock. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking food caused the alarm. Two rescue trucks responded.

On 10/04/17 at 11:49 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Sinsabaugh Heights Housing Complex at #187 Meadow Street. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking food caused the alarm. A rescue truck responded.

On 10/04/17 at 2:00 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at #395 Isinglass Road. Two engines responded.

On 10/05/17 at 8:55 am the Pine Rock Co. #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #2 Pochong Road for an odor of gas in the home. Firefighters responded and found the odor was from a gasoline leak from a motorcycle in a garage. An engine and a rescue truck responded.

On 10/05/17 at 10:26 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Red Lotus Restaurant #880 Bridgeport Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters found the occupancy filled with smoke and the fire sprinkler system activated. Further investigation by firefighters found a fire had occurred in a pot of food in the rear of the restaurant. The fire sprinkler head that activated kept the fire contained until firefighters arrived. The restaurant sustained smoke and water damage while adjacent stores sustained water damage. Two engines and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/05/17 at 12:26 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Red Lotus Restaurant #880 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. The alarm was transmitted accidentally by sprinkler contractors. An engine responded.

On 10/05/17 at 4:09 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to fire alarm sounding at #1 Waterview Drive. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10 /06/17 at 5:20 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south near exit 12. An engine responded.

On 10/06/17 at 6:02 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #9 Greystone Condos for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. An engine responded.

On 10/06/17 at 7:11 pm the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a large brush fire at the Trap Falls Reservoir. Two engines, a brush truck, a marine unit and a tanker truck responded.

On 10/06/17 at 10:22 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm at #44 Kneen Street. There was no fire. Two engines responded.

On 10/07/17 at 12:36 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 assisted the Lake Housatonic Authority with a water craft recovery on the river.

On 10/07/17 at 2:23 pm the Pine Rock Co. #4, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a house fire at #1 Waterford Drive. Upon arrival fire units found a pot of food on a stove had ignited but was out. The small fire spread to cabinets and an appliance above the stove. One engine and a ladder truck responded.

On 10/08/17 at 04:38 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the area of #145 Far Mill Street for overhead power lines on fire. An engine responded.

On 10/08/17 at 12”10 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to #1 Woodland Park for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. Two engines responded.

On 10/09/17 at 03:32 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of power lines down in the area of Captains Watch and Dexter Drive. A unit responded.
