A New Haven man was arrested Tuesday on federal drug charges connected to the fatal suspected overdose of a 34-year-old Shelton woman.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Connecticut announced the arrest of 26-year-old Corey Senior Wednesday in a press release.
Senior is being held in jail pending a May 19 detention hearing.
According to prosecutors, Senior “provided heroin to the victim shortly before” her death April 27. The woman’s name was not released.
Senior is charged with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin, and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said police found “bags that appeared to have contained heroin and a hypodermic needle” at the scene of the woman’s death.
Authorities also took the victim’s cell phone. That phone allegedly received a text from Senior, which Shelton police used to arrange an alleged drug buy April 28, according to a prepared statement.
The suspected “was arrested by the Shelton Police later that day after he arrived at the victim’s residence in possession of suspected heroin,” according to authorities.
Senior faces charges in state court in connection to that arrest.
“The charges stem from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users,” federal prosecutors said.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney U.S. Attorney John T. Pierpont, Jr.
