Report: Hurliman To Retire As Shelton Police Chief

FILEShelton Police Chief Joel Hurliman is retiring this month after nearly 40 years with the department, the Connecticut Post reported.

Captain Shawn Sequeira, a former state police detective hired earlier this year, will take over the chief’s job on an interim basis.

Mayor Mark Lauretti told the Post that he will begin the process of posting the opening and seeking applications. The mayor makes the final decision, with the approval of the Board of Aldermen.

Hurliman was promoted to chief in 2006.

Also a 23-year veteran of the Connecticut National Guard, Hurliman was recently named police officer of the year by the Knights of St. Patrick.
