Seymour Citizens Police Academy Starts in January

The Seymour Police Department is excited to embark and invite residents who reside in the Town of Seymour to its first Citizens Police Academy.

The Citizens Police Academy will start January 06, 2010 and will conclude at the end of March 2010. 

Classes will be held at the Seymour Police Department from 7 – 9 p.m. every Wednesday. 

Attendants of the academy class will receive first-hand knowledge about the every day tasks of what it’s like to be a police officer. 

They will also learn and discuss motor vehicle law, including DWI enforcement, criminal law, domestic violence, juvenile law, computer crimes, search and seizure and the process of the criminal justice system among other topics. 

There will also be demonstrations performed by the department’s K‑9 team as well as from members of the Emergency Services Unit. 

Classes will be taught by Police Officers from the Seymour Police Department and guests speakers from other agencies. 

Interested residents must be at least 18 years old. Background checks will be conducted on all applicants prior to acceptance to the Academy” class. 

Seating is limited and priority will be given to Seymour residents on a first-come first-serve basis. 

Deadline for applications will be December 31, 2009. 

If interested, residents are asked to pick up an application at the Seymour Police Department anytime at the Communication Center at Police Headquarters. 

Applications are also available at the Seymour Town Hall Monday – Thursday at the First Selectman’s Office.

There will be no charge for residents to attend thanks to a grant provided by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
