Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from last week.
On 07/02/17 at 12:26 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of smoke in the area of #290 Leavenworth Road. No smoke or fire was found by firefighters. An engine responded.
On 07/03/17 at 10:19 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #1 Enterprise Drive. There was no fire. An engine and a ladder truck responded.
On 07/03/17 at 5:49 pm the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a watercraft in distress on the Housatonic River. Marine fire units assisted a boater who had ran out of gas.
On 07/03/17 at 10:33 pm the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a watercraft in distress on the Housatonic River. Marine fire units assisted a boater who boat was taking on water.
On 07/03/17 at 11:48 pm the White Hills Co. #5, Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a house fire at #40 Stendahl Drive. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire in the rear of the home that had extended into the attic area of the house. Firefighters extinguished the fire and was under control within minutes. An investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office found the fire started when discharged fireworks, which were thought to be extinguished, ignited in a garbage bin that was placed against the home. The Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to their fire station to cover the town during the call. Three engines, two rescue trucks, a ladder truck and a utility truck responded.
On 07/04/17 at 12:38 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to assist the homeowner with a water problem at #60 Mohegan Road. An engine responded.
On 07/04/17 at 01:04 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #29 Leavenworth Road. There was no fire. An engine and a rescue truck responded.
On 07/04/17 at 10:33 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of open burning at #415 Booth Hill Road. An engine responded.
On 07/04/17 at 4:52 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #3 Poplar Drive. There was no fire. A faulty detector caused the alarm. An engine and a ladder truck responded.
On 07/04/17 at 5:36 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Marriott Residence Inn at #1001 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. A child had pulled the fire alarm for no reason. One engine and the tower truck responded.
On 07/04/17 at 6:57 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Sinsabaugh Heights Housing Complex at #187 Meadow Street. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One engine, a ladder truck and a tower truck responded.
On 07/04/17 at 9:11 pm the Pine Rock Park Co #4 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a brush fire in the rear of #11 Shinnacock Trail. Three engines responded.
On 07/05/17 at 12:13 am the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #15 Mohegan Road. There was no fire. A fog machine caused the alarm to activate. An engine and a ladder truck responded.
On 07/05/17 at 10:30 am the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on East Village Road near Vista Drive. One engine responded.
On 07/05/17 at 2:17 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Park Co #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the DeSanto Company #10 South Constitution Boulevard. A small fire in a production machine caused the alarm. An engine, two ladder trucks and one rescue truck responded.
On 07/05/17 at 2:20 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a car fire on route 8 south bound between exits 13 and 12. The small fire, in the engine compartment, was out upon arrival of fire units. An engine responded.
On 07/05/17 at 6:41 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Waverly Road at Matilda Lane. An engine responded.
On 07/05/17 at 9:38 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire in a kitchen stove at #32 Riverview Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters extinguished a small fire in the stove. Two engines and a ladder truck responded.
On 07/06/17 at 3:14 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a brush fire on River Road at Moultrop Lane. An engine responded.
On 07/06/17 at 3:16 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Shelton Avenue near Lake Road. A vehicle went off the roadway down a ravine and into a brook. Two engines and a rescue truck responded.
On 07/06/17 at 5:40 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Leavenworth Road at Walnut Tree Hill Road. An engine responded.
On 07/07/17 at 1:41 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #148 Far Mill Street for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One engine responded.
On 07/07/17 at 10:52 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Park Co #4 responded to a strange odor in the home at #132 Morningside Court. Two engines responded.
