There were no injuries, and the man was not charged with a crime as of 5 p.m.

Detective Christopher Nugent said at the scene that police had been called Wednesday afternoon by someone concerned about the man who asked cops to check on him.

Officers went to the house and nobody was home, Nugent said, so they began looking for the man.

Upon doing that an officer located him returning back to the residence,” Nugent said. He quickly pulled in the driveway and took off into the house.”

At that point, police decided to establish a perimeter and wait for officers from the Southwest Region 2 Special Response Team.

We were not aware if he had any weapons in the house, but based on comments made (by the person who called police), as a precaution we set up a perimeter and stood by for the SRT team,” Nugent said.

Police were also in touch with a member of the man’s family, Nugent said.

A half-dozen Shelton police cruisers blocked North Meadowridge Drive during the standoff, which ended about 3:30 p.m. when the man was detained without incident. He was unarmed, Nugent said.

Police had been at the house for about two hours when the standoff ended, Nugent said.

The man was detained in a police cruiser as heavily armed officers from the special response team searched the property.

About an hour later, the man’s lawyer, Michael Hillis, arrived at the scene.

After Hillis spoke to the man for a few minutes, and then to police, the man was led to an ambulance and driven away.
