Lawyer John Gulash and Shelton murder suspect Thomas Infante during Infante’s arraignment at Superior Court in Derby.

MILFORD A Shelton man who shot his wife to death and left his children to discover her body will be sentenced to 25 years in prison this month.

The man, Thomas Infante, took a plea deal in the case moments before jury selection was to begin for a murder trial at Superior Court in Milford.

Infante, 55, pleaded guilty April 10 before Judge Frank Iannotti to a charge of first-degree manslaughter with a firearm.

A plea deal in the case calls for the judge to sentence Infante to a 40-year prison term to be suspended after 25 years, followed by five years of probation.

According to court documents, Infante committed the crime while under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance.”

The manslaughter charge carries a five-year mandatory minimum prison sentence.

The Valley Indy left a message for Infante’s lawyer Wednesday.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 19.

According to police, Infante and his wife, Lisa, were in the process of divorcing and had an argument in their Hickory Lane home Sept. 27, 2015, during which Infante shot his wife.

Lisa Infante, 53 at the time of her killing, was an active volunteer with Echo Hose Ambulance in Shelton.

Her death sent shockwaves through the close-knit group, which raised funds for her four children in the wake of her death.

Two of the children were at the family’s home at the time of the killing, according to court documents. A judge has barred Infante from having contact with them.

Infante fled the area after the shooting and drove nearly to Ohio before turning back to surrender to police and confess.

He has been behind bars since his arrest, and is currently being held at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers on $1.5 million bond.
