Shelton police on Friday said they were sent to a residence after an anonymous tip saying that a woman was in a domestic situation,” as relayed through a coded text message from the victim to the anonymous tipster.

Upon arriving police said they heard a disturbance coming from an apartment, and encountered Gordon Cole, who repeatedly questioned why police were at his door. After an extended and heated conversation, Cole was taken into custody after being wrestled onto a couch.

An article published by Workers’ Voice accused Shelton officers of brutality, and noted that a protest was held outside Shelton police headquarters on Jan. 16, 2022. Other people questioned whether officers were sent to the scene under false pretenses.

The Connecticut Post reported Cole was arrested on a series of charges, including the violation of a standing court order to stay away from the woman.

Cole now has 12 criminal charges pending from the incident, including nine felonies.
