The mayor’s office is conducting a personnel investigation involving Ansonia Rescue and Medical Services, the city’s ambulance service.

ANSONIA — State police have received an allegation regarding insurance fraud within Ansonia Rescue and Medical Services, reported to authorities by a person within ARMS, The Valley Independent Sentinel has learned.

The specifics of the allegation are unclear. ARMS is the city’s ambulance service.

State police recently became involved in the issue after Ansonia police were notified. City police, citing possible conflicts of interest, referred the matter to state police, an outside agency. As a rule, state police do not normally confirm nor deny ongoing investigations.

The complaint to police has created division within ARMS.

The person who made the fraud complaint to police has been accused by fellow members of possibly recording them in an effort to get information. At least one of the members allegedly recorded in some manner has been in contact with police asking that something be done.

Separately, the city’s corporation counsel confirmed Wednesday that a personnel investigation is underway involving at least one ARMS member.

I can confirm that the City has been conducting a personnel investigation concerning ARMS, though at this point no disciplinary action has been taken against any individual,” John Marini, the city’s lawyer, said in a message.

When asked if the personnel investigation involves one person or more than one person, Marini said it involves the department.”

Marini, on behalf of Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti’s Office, has been conducting interviews for roughly four weeks.

Marini also confirmed that Jared Heon, the ARMS chief, is on administrative leave.

The Valley Indy messaged Heon Wednesday morning seeking additional comment.
