Winsted Woman Seriously Injured In Route 8 Crash

A Winsted woman was seriously injured Thursday after a tractor-trailer crashed into an SUV in which she was a passenger on Route 8 in Shelton, according to state police.

The woman, Kami Allen, 33, was listed in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital Friday afternoon.

The crash, which is under investigation, occurred about 9:54 p.m. near exit 13 on Route 8 north, police said.

Tequan Tirando, 24, of Bayonne, NJ, was driving the tractor-trailer in the right lane of the highway when he swerved onto the shoulder, crashing into a Winsted family stopped inside their Chevy Suburban.

The truck hit the SUV, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. Firefighters and EMS crews worked to remove those inside.

All five people involved were taken by Echo Hose Ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital.

Allen was sitting in the Suburban’s front passenger seat, state police said.

Three other people in the SUV — Jared Allen, 32, Avery Allen, 1, and Lincoln Allen, 5 — were all taken to the hospital to be evaluated, though state police said they did not suffer any apparent injuries.
