Bridgeport Man Charged In Fatal Shelton Crash

Shelton police have charged a second man with racing prior to a River Road crash that killed two people April 8.

Lawrence Carter, a 19-year-old from Bridgeport, surrendered to police Friday (June 22) after cops obtained a warrant charging him with two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, four counts of first-degree assault, and illegal racing on a highway.

On Monday (June 19), police arrested 19-year-old Abdulaziz Yuldoshev, who Carter was allegedly racing before the crash.

Carter was behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper traveling south on River Road that collided with a Saturn going north.

Two of Carter’s passengers — Shalymar Herrera, 18, of West Haven, and Briana Torres-Carter, 23, of Bridgeport — were killed in the crash.

Torres-Carter was pregnant, police said at the time.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Christopher Nugent said Carter posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby July 9.

Yuldoshev is scheduled to appear in court June 28.

Nugent said no more arrests are expected in the case.
