GOP Nominates McGorty For Re-Election

Last month, State Rep. Ben McGorty received the unanimous support from Republicans in the 122nd district to run for re-election.

It has been an honor representing the residents of Shelton, Stratford, and Trumbull in Hartford,” said Rep. McGorty. Our communities are great places to grow up, start a family, and retire in, but over the past eight years, we have seen a decline, not just in our communities but throughout the state, of people wanting to settle down in Connecticut. Residents and business are starting to move out to due backward policies implemented by the Malloy administration and his allies in the House and Senate.”

Rep. McGorty continued, I have been fighting back against these anti-taxpayer policies and there is hope that we can turn Connecticut around. With the close margins in the House and Senate, Republicans have been able to pass real solutions like a bonding cap and spending cap that will start to stabilize our economy. Restoring our economy will not happen overnight, but sending me back to Hartford means you will have a voice that will not stop fighting until our economy is firing on all cylinders.”

Rep. McGorty was first elected in a special election on July 22, 2014, and was re-elected on November 8, 2016. During the 2017 – 19 term, McGorty served on the legislature’s Judiciary and Environment Committees, as well as the Transportation Committee.

On the Transportation Committee, Rep. McGorty pushed back against legislative Democrats’ proposals to place throughout the state. McGorty voted no on toll legislation saying that tolls aren’t, the state has plenty of money we just have to spend it properly.

In the bipartisan budget that was recently passed, Rep. McGorty noted he supported the budget that fully funded the special transportation fund without raising taxes. Also, the budget restored education funding and the Medicare Savings Program.

McGorty is a realtor with William Raveis. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and is active in local and statewide fire prevention efforts. McGorty is a twenty-five-year volunteer with the Shelton Fire department and serves on Shelton’s Board of Fire Commissioners.

His wife, Noreen, is an alderman in Shelton representing the Huntington section of town, where they raised their two children.
