Update: No Suspects In Shelton Shooting

Details are scant in a shooting that occurred near City Hall Monday night, and police are trying to determine what happened with little help from the victim and a possible witness.

An 18-year-old Ansonia resident was shot in the left buttocks at about 7:38 p.m. Monday in the area of Division Avenue and Hill Street, police said.

The victim sought help from a resident on Division Avenue, and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with a non-life-threatening wound, according to Detective Sgt. Kevin Ahern.

Police have no suspects in the shooting and are still trying to determine why the man was shot, and why he was even in the residential neighborhood, Ahern said.

He is not very cooperative and neither is another individual we found in the area,” Ahern said Tuesday morning.

Ahern said police are not sure if the other person was a witness or involved somehow, because the person is not giving any information to police.

It’s hard to tell at this minute,” Ahern said.

The incident appears to be drug related, Ahern said. Police do not know if the victim knew anyone in the neighborhood where he was shot.

It makes no sense to us how they arrived there,” Ahern said. He’s from Ansonia. As far as we know, they don’t even know anyone in the area.”

Two cars – a white minivan and an older model Ford Mustang – were seen in the area at the time of the shooting, Ahern said. But police are not sure if the cars are connected to the incident.

Neighbors reported hearing a gun shot, but none reported seeing anything, Ahern said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Shelton Police Department at (203) 924‑1544 and ask for the detective bureau.
