Alex Sarni, age 91 of Shelton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the devoted and loving husband for 66 years of the late Helen Sarni. He was born January 12,1933, the son of the late Michael and Pauline Sarni, and was a Shelton resident since 1958.
He was a gentle, compassionate father and father-in-law to Paula Reed, and her husband, Howard; Alex Sarni Jr., and his wife, Susan; and Laura Picarazzi and her husband Philip. He was the proud grandfather of Brian Franklin Reed, and his wife, Solange; Adam Reed, and his wife, Stefanie; and Alex Sarni III, and his fiancée Rebecca Nguyen. Alex is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Zuri Franklin Reed and Sofia Reed, who he adored.
Alex was an electrical contractor and the proud owner of Economy Electric Inc., which he founded in 1962. He served honorably in the army during the Korean War from 1953 through 1955.
Alex was a creative and inventive man, a master electrician and a jack of all trades. He was very artistic and an incredible sketch artist. He enjoyed gardening and loved creating new things in his workshop, from picture frames to toy chests to lawn decorations. Later in life he enjoyed playing his keyboard by ear and putting puzzles together. He was always drawn to games, particularly ones of chance. He cherished his independence until the very end of his life. Alex was kind, and selfless, and down-to-earth – a loyal and steadfast presence in the lives of those around him.
Friends and family may greet his family on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 11 AM to 1 PM with the funeral directly following at 1:00. The services will take place at the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Rd. in Shelton.
