Darlene Cooper

Darlene Cooper, age 69, of Derby, entered into rest on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Darlene was born in Derby on June 4, 1954, daughter of the late Willie and Carrie (Byrd) Cooper, and lived most of her life in Shelton.

She was a graduate of Champlain College in Burlington, VT, and was the longtime Executive Secretary for the Fire Marshall’s Office in Shelton City Hall. In her youth, Darlene was an active participant in the area’s women’s softball programs, playing on various teams in the summer seasons. Darlene was a longtime member of the Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Ansonia where she was active in the Missionary Society. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and welcomed any opportunity to travel. Her engaging style and friendly nature will certainly be missed by all that knew her.

She is the beloved mother of Jeremie DePaul Cooper. She also leaves four brothers, Frank Cooper and his wife Deborah, Brian Cooper and his wife Susan, William Ashley Cooper, and Gerald Phillips and his late wife Janet, and two sisters, Janelle Cooper and Tina Brown. She was also predeceased by her brother Harvey Phillips.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Monday, April 8, 2024 from 10 to 11:30 AM. Her funeral service will begin in the parlor at 11:30 AM.
